Participation and inclusion
We design for people who face barriers related to age, ability, geography, language, income, confidence or digital access.
Husika exists to strengthen the relationship between people and public decision-making. We make public information easier to understand, create practical opportunities for people to contribute and support communities to participate from a position of knowledge.
We believe participation should not be limited to people who understand legal language, live near government offices, have reliable internet access or already know how public systems work. Participation should be designed around the realities of the people it is intended to include.
Husika therefore brings together community engagement and digital access. A citizen may first encounter an issue through a short explainer, discuss it at a local forum, respond to a survey, submit feedback or follow updates through the Husika platform. The objective is not simply to publish information, but to help people understand it, form their own views and take part.
To expand informed public participation by making policies and civic processes accessible, strengthening citizen voice and connecting communities with opportunities to learn, contribute and act.
A Kenya where every person can understand public issues, participate meaningfully in decisions and help shape accountable, inclusive governance.
We combine the values in our organizational profile into four practical commitments.
We design for people who face barriers related to age, ability, geography, language, income, confidence or digital access.
We remain non-partisan, communicate honestly and protect our work from political, commercial or donor capture.
We distinguish fact from assumption, explain how we work and use feedback and data to improve our programmes.
We protect participants, treat every person with dignity and work with communities and institutions rather than in isolation.
